Daniel Radcliffe Lending His Voice for "The Simpsons"

This was a wish he had for a long time and is finally here, Daniel will be lending his voice for one particular upcoming episode of "The Simpsons".
Executive producer Al Jean has revealed that the "Harry Potter" star will take part in a "Twilight" parody as part of the next "Treehouse of Horror XXI" episode.

"Daniel was very excited to do The Simpsons," Jean shared, "and we kept trying to ask him for secrets from the upcoming 'Harry Potter' movie until we realized that they were all in the books." It is further explained that the 20-year-old will provide voice to a kid vampire character named Edmund whom Lisa falls for in the episode to be aired in fall 2010. The segment will see Edmund's father, Dracula, and Homer try to pull the two apart.

Daniel Radcliffe narrates 'HMD 2010: The Legacy of Hope'

Daniel has recorded the narration for the 2010 Holocaust Memorial Day short film Legacy of Hope. The Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day of remembrance in the UK for the victims of the Holocaust and of other genocides.

Dan has this to say about his participation in this proejct:

"When I was approached to narrate this short film, The Legacy of Hope, I felt very privileged. I felt that in a very small way I was contributing to the remembrance of these tragic and horrendous events, whilst also commemorating all those people who refused to let the horrors they had lived through dictate the tone of the rest of their lives.

The surest shield we have against future atrocities is our knowledge and our emotional understanding of what has happened in the past. The chance to help the vital work done by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust could not be turned down."

Carly Whyborn, Chief Executive Officer, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, said this about Dan's participation in this project:

“We are delighted that Daniel Radcliffe is once again lending his support to HMD. With this year's theme - The Legacy of Hope – it is entirely fitting that Daniel, who is so well known amongst younger audiences, has narrated our film, which will be shown at HMD events across the UK. Through the film, people will have the opportunity to listen to the memories of survivors like Ben, Lily and Iby and think about what action they can take after HMD which will have a positive impact on their community.”

"Emma Watson and Rupert Grint may have momentarily distracted the world by flashing their underwear and contracting swine flu (respectively), but at Thursday's New York premiere for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Daniel Radcliffe was on an impressive charm offensive that made it clear which of the three is still going to be making bank when he's fifty. We watched as he moved down the carpet, joking about his height, laughing at the sexual tension and drug-use allusions in the film, and gamely imagining who would win a battle between wizards and vampires ("Wizards! Vampires have to get near a wizard to kill him and we’d be able to keep our distance"). And he certainly got on our good side by telling us he wants to be back on Broadway in two or three years and is even taking tap lessons to get ready ("So far it's just a bit of shuffling... Hope you are all well and happy! I'm still in London enjoying beautiful weather here.

We have completed our Daniel Radcliffe shoot and i have to say i'm so proud of my magnificent team for helping me pull off and incredible day. The organization from Ken was second to none...the clothing/hair styling by James beyond brilliant and the visual styling, photography and support from darling Kahen magnificent!

This shoot has come off beyond my wildest expectations and produced what i think is some of my best work ever. I could not have even gotten to London in a stable mental state without the 500% effort of my magnificent team....a day that ran to perfection that did not go unnoticed. The powers that be are ecstatic with the small handful of images they have seen....and there are 100 more to come!

Thanks to everyone for their support and words of encouragement. It was tuff getting here but now its done and time to move forward!

"Let’s be honest, I have enough money to never have to work again. It’s only just recently that I’ve really come round to the idea of carrying on with acting at all. I knew I was the perfect nine-year-old to play Hermione. But I was concerned that all would come out after that was Hermione. And if that had happened –well, I would know I couldn’t act. And then that would be it."

‘It was pretty tough turning 18,’ she says. ‘I realised that overnight I’d become fair game. I had a party in town and the pavements were just knee-deep with photographers trying to get a shot of me looking drunk, which wasn’t going to happen. I don’t have to drink to have a good time. The sickest part was when one photographer lay down on the floor to get a shot up my skirt.

‘The night it was legal for them to do it, they did it. I woke up the next day and felt completely violated by it all. That’s not something I want in my life. I just kept thinking that if it had happened a day earlier people would have sued their a***s off.

‘I wasn’t one of those girls who always dreamed of being an actress. I went to a normal school and then these film auditioners turned up when I was nine. Then I just fell into this whirlwind. I had lots of times when I thought: “Woah, woah, hang on – I’m not completely sure about this.

‘Daniel (Radcliffe), Rupert (Grint) and me have been incredibly protected doing the Harry Potter movies. There seems to be this feeling that all of us were bursting to break out of these images we had created but that’s never been the case. We all share the same view. On Tuesday Barack Obama becomes our new president. We happen to be seeing each other in a very American week. Does it make you feel overly British to be here right now, or less so?

I feel privileged to be here for Obama’s inauguration. But I do tend to go doubly British when I am away from home. I have picked up certain phrases while here in America that I plan to eradicate as soon as I get back home.

Examples?

“I know—right?” That phrase and its little rhythm there is very American and not really used in England. I’ve started saying that and people are picking up on it when they come over. But getting back to Mr. Obama. I am so proud and happy for this country. He is everything the rest of the world liked about America and now likes again. He is both Martin Luther King and JFK. He is a pioneer. He is a symbol of progress which is what we dig about this country. What you love about England is all the old buildings and such. The traditions. I love that, too. But this is what we want from you.

And may I? I’d like to take this opportunity to issue a public invitation to the Obamas that if their daughters would like a private tour of the Harry Potter set, I would be honored to be their personal tour guide.

Your mother is Jewish. Do you identify as Jewish yourself?

Absolutely. I really do. My dad is Northern Irish and my mum is Jewish. That’s working blood. Though I am not religious in the least, I am very proud to be Jewish.

That should help you fit in here in New York. Are you ready for the run of Equus to end?

I’m going to be very sad. The Harry Potter films brought me a reputation. And doing Equus in London and now in New York has consolidated that and brought me a certain amount of respect. It will always be my first experience on the stage.

You are an only child who attained worldwide fame at a very early age. Fame itself has become a presence in your life. I’m sure you have a love/hate relationship with it. In that sense, did fame become your sibling?

It’s not so much the fame thing as it is the person you are when you are in front of an audience or, well, being interviewed.

So you have become your own sibling?

I guess in a way, yeah because you develop two personas. It’s not even a conscious thing. Something happens. Like when I did Inside the Actor’s Studio. Adrenalin hits you and your mind starts working very, very fast. People always say to me, “Oh, you’re so funny in interviews.” And I go, Well, I’m not really in real life particularly. That’s what fame does to you. You acquire another self.

Have you contacted your co-star in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix—Robert Pattinson—to give him any advice about his own sudden fame because of the Twilight films? He was once quoted as saying that if given a choice between himself and you, that girls would choose you every time.

I don’t have his number, so haven’t spoken to him. But I can safely say that his insisting that girls would choose me over him that they would not. That they do not. He is the much prettier and can be much more charming. And he can do that thing of being sultry and sexy.

You’re sexy, Daniel. Come on. Own it.

- Emma and Dan are on the Top 100 Celebrities under 25 for AIM.com, Emma came on # 86 and Dan on #97.

- Emma has joined other celebrities in designing their own dinner platesity for charity. They are all contributing for BBC’s Blue Peter’s special auction in aid of its annual appeal, Mission Nutrition. Money raised from the sale of the plates will help the appeal achieve its ambitious target of putting two million meals on plates for children around the world.

And finally take this as just a rumour since we all know Dan is going to be busy this and next year, but the The Screen Daily is reporting a new project for Dan on its way:

The film will tell the story of Agustina Raimunda Maria Saragossa Domenech, a famous Spanish heroine who defended her country's independence during the Peninsular Wars against Napoleon.

"British-born journalist Richard Thompsett, now based in the US, has written the script, which picked up best screenplay at the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival.

Casting us underway with Natalia Tena (who appeared in the last and ....

Other cast members being considered are Daniel Radcliffe to play a young Lord Byron, Cillian Murphy, Joseph Fiennes or Jonathan Rhys Myers for the role of LT, General Sir Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington) and Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek or Eva Mendez to play the role of Agustina's older sister."

Broadway.com has an article about the 20th Annual Gypsy event for Broadway Cares/Equity fights AIDS. The grand total was announced at this event on December 9 at the New Amsterdam Theatre, reporting Equus as the top eaner:

"The top Broadway earner for the charity was Equus, which raised $203,747—helped in no small part by star Daniel Radcliffe auctioning off the jeans he wears in the show.

The Gypsy of the Year Competition is the culmination of a period of intensive fundraising where New York’s “gypsies,” chorus members from Broadway and off-Broadway shows, join in a competition/variety show as the fundraising by the community come to a close."

On another article from Broadwayworld.com, we get to know what the cast of Equus did for this event:

"The cast of Equus featured star Daniel Radcliffe performing an original song, written by Mr. Radcliffe, entitled "The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Neigh" that included the show's "horses" dancing and cavorting with their young star."

And thanks to gluglud from the SCQ forum we have in detail what Dan and the rest of the cast did for this event, enjoy it!!!

I was able to snag a balcony ticket to The Gypsy of the Year show (the annual benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS) today. For those unfamiliar with it, it's an annual "talent show" put on by various plays and musical casts in current productions. So much talent mixed with a "Forbidden B'way" kind of referential snark.

The number performed by the cast of "Equus" was one of the most well received by the audience - Dan got entrance applause and the cast got a curtain call (they were the only ones who did besides the excellent dancers from "The Lion King").

Dan sang(!) a song called "The Love that Dare not speak its Neigh." He and the horses are in costume just like the beginning of Equus (Dan and all of the horses in are in a circle and he embraces Lorenzo/Nugget). I don't recall all of the lyrics but I remember at the end they rhymed "masturbation" with "ovation." His singing voice was decent if a bit raspy (I think he's suffering from a cold) but I think he can work on it if he ever wants to do a musical.

Anna Camp and Mike Moseley did some kind of rap thing in the middle, but the best part was the end when Dan did a kickline with the horses. He needs to work on his kicks if he ever wants to do "A Chorus Line" but he looked like he was having a blast. LOL

They did not announce who won or who raised the most $$$ - that's at tomorrow's show. Kate Mulgrew happens to be a judge, so I wonder if she's biased. And no, Richard Griffiths was not involved in the #.

Equus cast member Spencer Liff has an interview with BroadwayWorld.com, in which he talked about Dan on the first day or rehearsals:

“The first day or two [of rehearsals], it was very strange, just ’cause you’ve watched this kid grow up. But he was instantly charming right from the get-go, knew everyone’s name by the end of the first day, ate lunch with us in the greenroom. So now he’s not Harry Potter anymore. And certainly when you see him do the material in the show, your perspective changes.”

On another interview with Talkin' Brodway, Equus actress Carolyn McCormick also has something nice to say about our Dan:

It's been great. Daniel Radcliffe has an enormous fan base. The thing I notice the most is how young much of the audience is because of that, and how nice that is. We need to get younger people into the audiences so those people realize that the theaters are worth keeping alive. A lot of the theaters I've worked in have an old subscription base. I look up there and I think "Who's going to replace you guys in 20 or 30 years?" If this show ignites 10 new future theater goers every night, that would be great. I think that's the best thing, and that's Dan bringing those people in. But they come in to see a movie star and they leave having seen an actor.

The actor, 19, is currently starring in Broadway stage show Equus - and although he wasn't eligible to vote, he made sure he could soak up the atmosphere by tagging along with one of his American co-stars.

Millions of U.S. citizens, including celebrities like Tim Robbins, LL Cool J, Lindsay Lohan and Pharrell Williams, queued for hours to log their votes at the ballot box - with Democrat Barack Obama eventually being announced as the new president.

And Radcliffe was delighted to have witnessed the monumental scenes at the polls near New York University.

He tells the New York Post, "Barack Obama's treated like the Messiah in England.

"We don't have particularly inspirational politicians, certainly no one who can draw crowds in the thousands."
